  • A beginner’s guide to importing from Yiwu Market

Yiwu Market in Zhejiang, China is the world’s largest wholesale market for small commodities – from stationery and toys to jewellery, hardware, and home goods.

For Pakistani importers, Yiwu offers enormous variety at competitive prices, but navigating thousands of stalls is impossible without a local agent. That is where a sourcing partner comes in: we shortlist suppliers, negotiate prices, inspect samples, and consolidate your order into a single shipment.

Start small with a mixed sample order to test quality and demand, then scale into full cartons or containers once you have proven the product. Combine multiple suppliers into one consolidated shipment to cut your per-unit freight cost.

  • Understanding CBM: why volume decides your shipping cost

CBM (cubic meter) measures the volume your cargo occupies, and it often decides your freight cost more than actual weight does.

The formula is simple: Length x Width x Height (in meters) = CBM per carton. Multiply by your carton count for total volume.

Carriers also calculate volumetric weight. For sea freight, a common divisor is 1000; for air freight it is 6000. Carriers charge on the greater of actual or volumetric weight, so light but bulky goods can cost more than you expect.

Use our CBM calculator to estimate volume, volumetric weight, and how many cartons fit in a 20ft or 40ft container before you book.
